BISLIG CITY – The policemen from Bislig City and PNP officers from the province of Surigao del Sur arrested a top-ranking government official for cases of estafa, reports said Friday.

Arrested by police authorities were Surigao del Sur Vice Governor Librado Navarro, 64 and his wife identified as Maylene, 47, also a resident of the same place.

Their arrest, according to reports, was based on an arrest warrant issued by the Regional Trial Court, Branch 42 in Medina, Misamis Oriental.

The Surigao del Sur Police Provincial Office said the couple were arrested at around 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 17 in San Andres, Barangay Maharlika, Bislig City.”

It was learned that there was no bail bond recommended for the arrest of the vice governor and his wife at his residence in Ericsson Subdivision, Poblacion, Bislig City.

PRO-13 Director Brig Gen Romeo Caramat, Jr, told the media that the governor’s wife was a resigned Sangguniang Bayan member of the town of Talisayan in Misamis Oriental.

The police director warned the public to avoid joining investment scams, saying that “no such thing as groups or companies guaranteeing high returns on investment in a short period.”

“The Caraga police will pursue and apprehend perpetrators regardless of your title, as long as you have culpability in our law,” Caramat told the media.
