MANILA, Philippines – With Philippines now having 63,000 confirmed cases of covid-19, it is feared that the nation would be able to overtake China, which is currently stuck on 83,000 confirmed cases of novel coronavirus since it was battered by the disease a few months back.
This, as the Department of Health announced the deadly coronavirus disease now reach 63,001 with a staggering new cases of 1,841 last Thursday alone.
The DOH said only 39,593 of the 63,000 covid-19 patients in the country are considered “active” while the rest have already recovered and were tested back to negative, with 21,748 recovered patients and 1,660 succumbed to death.
Earlier, President Rodrigo Duterte has approved new quarantine classifications for this pandemic hitting the country in the present times. The new classifications would be effective for the period from July 16 to 31.
Metro Manila, which was considered the epicenter of the deadly virus in the country, remained under general enhanced community quarantine until July 31, since cases of coronavirus new infections are still continuing in many parts of Metro Manila.
Cebu City in the Visayas region was also battered by covid-19 with its confirmed cases also hitting 6000 mark. The region is considered the second coronavirus ‘hot spot’ next to Metro Manila.
In the international updates of the virus, United States continued to be the strongly-hit progressive countries in the Americas, with a total virus infections of over 3 million cases and death toll reaching over 160,000.
