PH unemployment rate drops for second straight quarter—SWS

The Philippine unemployment rate has dropped for the second straight quarter according to the Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey.
Based on the survey conducted from March 28 to 31, 2019, the unemployment rate went down to 19.7% or approximately 9.4 million adult Filipinos who are unemployed.
This is 2.3% lower compared to the survey results in September 2018 (22%).
Among the 9.4 million unemployed Filipinos, 4.5 million were adults who voluntarily left their jobs, 3.6 million adults who were retrenched, and 1.3 million adults who are first-time job seekers.
“The March 2019 survey found that the adult labor force participation rate is at 71.4% or an estimated 47.6 million adults. This is 5.2 points above 66.2% or an estimated 42.4 million adults in December 2018.

The estimated size of the adult labor force in previous quarters were 44.4 million adults (69.3% of adults) in September 2018 and 43.8 million (68.3%) in June 2018,” the survey states.—(with reports from Asher Cadapan Jr.)
