PH health department sounds clarion call vs dengue in North Mindanao

CAGAYAN de Oro City–The Department of Health (DOH) unleashed a clarion call as Dengue cases in Northern Mindanao have surpassed the five-year “epidemic” threshold with a total of 15,095 cases and 60 deaths from January 1, 2019 to August 3, 2019.

Dr. Adriano P. Suba -an, acting regional health director, said that the province of Bukidnon with the highest number of cases totaling 6,406 cases followed by Misamis Oriental with 2,384 cases and Lanao Del Norte with 2,066 cases.

He said that the province of Lanao Del Norte recorded the highest number of deaths with 15 deaths followed by Misamis Oriental, 13, and Bukidnon 10.

As far as the cities are concerned, Iligan City with 867 dengue cases recorded the highest number of deaths with 11 deaths followed by Cagayan De Oro City with 1,557 cases and only eight deaths.

Suba-an said that based on the ratio between dengue cases and deaths, the city of Iligan recorded the number of deaths followed by Cagayan De Oro City.

Suba-an appealed to the public to join in the fight against the proliferation of Dengue cases in Northern Mindanao.

“Dengue kills! Let us clean the surroundings, and destroy the breeding ground of mosquitoes at all cost,” Suba-an said.

He reminded that the Dengue carrier mosquitoes thrived in clean water like the water residue of the refrigerators, flower vases, tires, and water dispensers found at home.

Suba-an also suggested to apply the 4s approach in the fight against Dengue in schools, offices, and at homes.

The 4s stand for “search and destroy,” “seek early medication,” “self-protection measures,” and “say ‘yes’ to fogging.”
