CAMP OSITO D BAHIAN, Malaybalay City – On March 10, 2023 , the Peacemaker Troopers from 403 rd Infantry (Peacemaker) Brigade along with the personnel from Alpha Battery, 4 th Field Artillery Battalion (FAB) and 1003 rd Community Defense Center (CDC), 10 th Regional Community Defense Group (RCDG), Reserve Command (RESCOM), PA participated in the nationwide simultaneous tree planting of 1,000,000 fruit bearing trees from different government and non-government agencies held at its headquarters at Camp Osito D. Bahian, Brgy 10, Malaybalay City, Bukidnon. Variety of seedlings were donated by the Department of Agriculture (DA), Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources at their local offices at the said province.
The said activity is in commemoration to the 126 th Founding Anniversary of the Philippine Army on March 22, 2023 and is anchored to the President Marcos’ environmental protection and food security programs in consonance with the Philippine climate change adaptation by catalyzing Private-Public-Partnership (PPP) through the Whole-of-Nation approach (WNA).
Colonel Michele B Anayron Jr, the Brigade Commander, enjoins organic personnel, operational control and tenant units to participate in this nationwide campaign of the natural regeneration and planting areas with the most need, which is critical in mitigating the worst effects of climate change.
“Indeed, it is high time to think green and save Mother Nature. According to a study, as trees grow, they help stop climate change by removing carbon dioxide from the air, storing carbon in the trees and soil, and releasing oxygen into the atmosphere. Trees provide many benefits to us, every day. They offer cooling shade, attract birds, purify our air, prevent soil erosion, clean our water, and add grace and beauty to our community. But there are other societal benefits to tree planting and restoring scarce resources besides helping the planet. This tree planting that will be turned into tree growing could have the financial rewards after harvesting the fruit of our labors” said Colonel Anayron Jr.
“Finally, tree planting as a sole strategy, is not a silver bullet to solve multiple environmental problems, this should be incorporated amongst the toolbox of ways and tactics. Hence, collaboration approach with other agencies will best solve this problem just like problems in insurgency and our quest for peace. Thus, Peacemaker Brigade is in one with this administration in supporting our desire to preserve our planet for the next generations to come, remember apart from serving the people, we are also mandated to secure the land” ended the Brigade Commander.
