PCA-10 joins Kadiwa to aid coco farmers

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY —Primarily aimed to help coconut farmers sell off their products especially during the coronavirus disease (COVID)-19 pandemic, the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA)-10 joins the Kadiwa at Diskwento Karavan of the Department of Agriculture (DA)-10, May 8.
“This is the fruit of our conception sa atong pagplano niining atong Kadiwa. We have to make accessible and available sa atoang mga agricultural products and basic commodities sa atong mga small farmers,” PCA-10 Regional Director Brendan Trasmonte said.
(This is the fruit of our conception in planning our Kadiwa. We have to make our agricultural products and basic commodities accessible and available for our small farmers)
Now on its initial stage for Kadiwa at Diskwento Outlet, the activity targets to sustain food security especially to the urban poor and Trasmonte said they are aiming to institutionalize such to help more farmers.
Aside from linking farmers to direct buyers, enhancing the latter’s products, establishing ties and sustaining agricultural markets, PCA’s Kadiwa at Diskwento Karavan also focuses on increasing the farmers’ income.
“We try to negotiate with the product owners so they will give us discounted prices,” Trasmonte said citing that such will also entice buyers to purchase the products.
Among the coconut products displayed at the PCA-10 Office as well as on Kadiwa on Wheels include cooking oil, sugar, vinegar, coco milk, buko pie and raw coconuts.
The products displayed at the PCA-10 Office here are available Mondays-Fridays, 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. (RTP/PIA10)
