PBBM distributes aid to flood-stricken families in MisOr

GINGOOG CITY, Misamis Oriental (PIA)–President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Wednesday, January 11, led the distribution of assistance to families affected by massive flooding in Gingoog City last month.

Under the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), the president gave food packs and P5,000 in cash to 1,500 beneficiaries.
The distribution was held at the Arturo Lugod Memorial Sports and Cultural Center and witnessed by Gingoog City Mayor Erick Cañosa and Misamis Oriental Governor Peter Unabia.

Marcos said he planned to visit as soon as possible, but the inclement weather prevented him from doing so.

The president said he wanted to visit the affected areas to personally assess the situation and determine the appropriate interventions needed.

“Ako ay nandito upang tingnan kung ano ba talaga ang nangyari at kung ano ‘yung mga kailangang gawin. At tiyakin na ‘yung mga nawala sa tahanan, mga evacuee ay nasa inyo lahat ng inyong pangangailangan,” he further said.

(I am here to see what really happened and what needs to be done. And make sure that those who lost their homes, the evacuees, have all their needs)

Marcos also reassured that the government is doing everything to help speed up the return of the evacuees to their homes and their jobs.

He also committed that while the evacuees are still staying in evacuation areas, they will be provided with their basic needs.

“Kaya’t patuloy ang aming ginagawa at titiyakin namin na habang nandito pa kayo, we will make sure na lahat ng pangangailangan ninyo ay nakukuha ninyo,” the president added.

(So we are continuing what we are doing, and we will make sure that while you are still here, we will make sure that you get all your needs met)

Moderate to intense rains were experienced here last month due to the shear line. A low pressure area also brought heavy rains, affecting 18,452 families in 45 barangays of the city. (APB/PIA-10/Misamis Oriental)
