Palm Grass, The Cebu Heritage Hotel, will celebrate the 121st year of the Battle of Tres de Abril and its 2nd Grand Opening Anniversary with a talk by the National Artist for Literature Dr. Resil Mojares on the “Cebu Freedom Fighters” on April 3, 2019 at 3PM.

Collaborating with a Cebu bisrock band, the hotel in Junquera street will also release an 1898 Cebu Katipunan song, interpreted and arranged by the band Aggressive Audio, along with its music video created by filmmaker Prospero Laput of Hongkong-based Asia-Pacific Focus Features.

The song “O, Pilipinas” is part of the Palm Grass’ “Abtik Pas Kilat”, an album of songs of love, war, and history that will be launched this April 3 at 7PM.

Other songs in the Abtik pas Kilat album are Gugmang Kilat (a song on a fictional girl who loved Leon Kilat), Gugmang Gihandom (inspired by the KKK Cebu leaders and the couple C. Padilla and Juliana Revilles), and Alerta Katipunan.  Also included in the album, are the songs Kinasing, Kuyogi Ko, Paglangyaw, Hugot Pas Huot, and Batang Colon.

Other artists to perform are The Clash’s Joannah Sy; Cebu Popular Music Festival Grand Champions Gerlyn Abaño, Fliptop/emcee rapper Asser and DJ Mae Dente; singer and Katipunero descendant Naomi Rosales; and the Bag-ong Teatro  Junquera chorale.

Moreover, a video on Governor Inocencio Junquera and the Bag-ong Teatro Junquera created by Asia-Pacific Focus Features will also be screened.

Supported by the Cebu City Cultural and Historical Affairs Commission (CHAC), Bag-ong Teatro Junquera is a community theater in partnership with 3 schools- University of San Jose Recoletos, University of the Visayas, University of San Carlos,  5 barangays along Junquera St, and Palm Grass.

As part of the celebration, Bag-ong Teatro Junquera will present a stage play “Abtik pas Kilat” on April 1 and 2, 2019 at  Fr. Albert van Gansewinkel Hall of the  University of San Carlos Downtown  Campus. There will be two shows in a day: 2PM-4PM and 7PM-9PM.

The April 3, 2019 celebration from 3pm-9pm, will be held at the front area of Palm Grass,  the hotel lobby, Hawanan Tres de Abril function hall and Kapihan ni Lumaya library restaurant.

Other activities on April 3 include: 1) reenactment of the Battle of Tres de Abril; 2)messages from the Cebu City Mayor, Cebu Heritage Community and Katipunero Descendants; 3) excerpts from Stage Play, “Abtik pas Kilat”; and 4) dinner buffet of Cebuano Dishes with Lechon.

Dinner Buffet with lechon and Cebuano dishes will be available for only P399.00 per person and P78.00 discount will be given to the first 20 customers/guests and descendants of Katipuneros.

As the only heritage hotel in Cebu, Palm Grass named its different areas, floors, suite rooms, signature dishes and drinks after some of the Cebuano Katipuneros who fought in the 1898 Cebu Revolution/Battle of Tres de Abril led by Leon Kilat 121 years ago.

“Abtik pas Kilat” (quicker than lightning) describes valiant 1898 Cebu hero Heneral Leon Kilat who led the Battle of Tres de Abril.
