Pagadian City ready to host PUVMP caravan Mindanao-leg

CAGAYAN de Oro City–The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board Regional Office 9 (LTFRB-9) and the local government of Pagadian City  are in the thick of things preparing for the Second Leg of the Public Utility Vehicle (PUV) Modernization caravan set to arrive here on September 17, 2019, the 1st Leg of which has been completed in Luzon last month.

Kicking off in General Santos City, SOCSARGEN, last September 2, the PUV Modernization caravan Mindanao-leg, with the theme: "Arangkada Ng Pagbabago Tungo Sa Kaunlaran," has moved to Tagum City for Region 11 last Sept. 5, and hitting Cotabato City for the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao immediately after.

LTFRB 9 acting Regional Director Aminoden Guro, also LTFRB-10 regional director, said he and Pagadian City Mayor Samuel Co have already firmed up plans for the hosting of the caravan in the city, coinciding with the Araw ng Zamboanga del Sur.

In a meeting held Wednesday, Sept. 4, at the City Mayor’s Office, Mayor Co has offered the use of the city gymnasium and its adjacent covered court for the holding of the caravan.

Director Guro announced during the meeting that various transport groups in the region are invited to the event, even as PUV Modernization Program (PUVMP) partner line agencies will also have their participation by way of putting up their respective one-stop-shops during the day-long Caravan.

Among the government agencies expected to be part of the caravan to give out information on the services they offer to attending transport groups are the Office of Transportation Cooperatives (OTC), Cooperative Development Authority (CDA), Technical Education Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Land Transportation Office (LTO), and financial institutions Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP) and Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP), among others.

Expected to grace the event are Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade, DOTr Undersecretary for Land Transport Mark Richmund de Leon, DOTr Assistant Secretary for Special Concerns B/Gen. Manny Gonzales (Ret.), LTFRB Chairman Martin Delgra III, OTC acting Chairman Medel Afalla, and local chief executives to be led by Mayor Co.

PUVMP is a flagship non-infrastructure project of the Duterte administration that aims to provide safe, reliable, convenient, affordable and environmentally-sustainable public transport system in the country by June 2020.

From Pagadian, the PUV Modernization caravan will proceed to Cagayan de Oro (Sept. 20), then to Valencia in Bukidnon (Sept. 24), Butuan City (Sept. 27), Tandag City (Oct. 1) with Surigao City (Oct. 6) as its last stop In Mindanao.

Guro said suppliers of modern vehicles, which comply with the Omnibus Franchising Guidelines will form part of the caravan and will display their vehicles in the cities the caravan passes through to showcase their products and to provide information on the kind of vehicles up for financing.
