CAGAYAN de Oro City, Misamis Oriental– About 378 hog raisers in Misamis Oriental received financial aid amounting to P 2,162,000 from the provincial government of Misamis Oriental, Governor Yevgeny Vincente Emano said Tuesday.
Emano said the initial amount is intended to hog raiser farmers who suffered losses due to the onslaught of the African Swine Fever (ASF) that swept the province early February this year.
He said that Leon Tan, Jr. President of the Northern Mindanao Hog Raisers Association, Inc. (Normin Hog, Inc.) received the initial amount in a turnover ceremony at the provincial capitol.
According to Emano, each farmer member whose hogs were depopulated would received an initial amount to buy new breed of piglets to start all over again.
Provincial Veterinary Dr.Benjie Resma, said that the provincial government has already depopulated 1,462 hogs through mass burial as of Tuesday.
Resma said that the ASF disease has spread to 18 villages in six municipal towns, mostly located west of Misamis Oriental.
Resma said that the only solution to contain ASF is to depopulate the affected hogs and established the five-kilometer radius prohibiting the transport of the hogs outside the radius.
