CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY –Â The Department of Agriculture (DA) allocated P13.6 million cash aid to 786 hog growers in Cagayan de Oro hard-hit by the outbreak of the African Swine Fever (ASF) here.
Deputy House Speaker Rufus Rodriguez, of Cagayan de Oro, said Sunday that the affected farmers and hog growers lost 2,816 hogs with the outbreak of ASF here in January this year.
He said that the DA is indemnifying the farmer-hog growers at P5,000 per hog or a total of P13.6 million for the 2,816 hogs.
According to Rodriguez, he made the appeal to the DA in response to the farmers’ clamor for help to be able to recover their losses.
He said that DA Secretary William Dar directed DA Regional Director Carlene Collado in Northern Mindanao to release available funds amounting to P13.6 million to compensate the Cagayan de Oro hog grower-farmers.
Rodriguez said that the DA head office in Manila will replenish the DA regional office of the funds used to help the hog grower-farmers who suffered losses because of the ASF outbreak here. -0-
