CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY: A big-time drug syndicate, believed protected by an unidentified top official, is busted with the seizure of illegal drugs worth P 3.4 million during drug buy-bust operations that led to the arrest of the “courier” here Tuesday afternoon.
The operations were carried out by police operatives from Region 9 in Zamboanga Peninsula in coordination with the local police and the Philippines Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) here.
Police identified the suspects as only “Ian” and “Ana,” the alleged courier, for fear that the members of the drug syndicate, now the subject of follow up operations might elude the dragnet.
“Joey,” the police team leader from Zamboanga’s drug enforcement group unit, said that the operatives followed the suspects from Region 9 until they were cornered in Kauswagan, Cagayan de Oro City Tuesday afternoon.
Seized from the suspects were the alleged illegal drug (Methamphetamine Hydrochloride) weighing 600 grams, the buy-bust money amounting to P 1.5 million placed in a red “eco bag,” and the suspect’s the motorcycle,
Operatives from the police in Zamboanga said that the suspects were residents of Cagayan de Oro who were under surveillance for a long time.
“Joey” said that they are securing the suspects while the operatives are still tracking the other members of the syndicate.
He said that a top official in Northern Mindanao, believed to be the protector of the drug syndicate, is now also the object of the manhunt.
“We are getting more pieces of evidence to pin the top official. The arrest of the suspects is providing important information too,” Joey said. -0-
