OZAMIZ CITY, Misamis Occidental, Sep. 21 (PIA)–Ozamiz City Mayor Sancho Fernando Oaminal and the 51 barangay captains of the city converge to discuss the latest COVID-19 status in Ozamiz and further strengthen the implementation of strict measures against coronavirus disease (COVID)-19 at the Working Congressman Function Hall, Fertig Hills, Tangub City.
Oaminal said since the start of the health crisis, they have been constantly appealing to all Ozamiznons to strictly follow the protocols set such as the observance of social distancing, wearing of face masks, and maintaining proper hygiene.
He reminded all barangay captains and OICs of 51 barangays in Ozamiz City to fulfill their respective obligations and responsibilities as government officials to protect the Ozamiznon against COVID- 19, as they swore when they took oath as barangay officials.
“The virus is already in our city, it has joined people inside malls, motorbikes, tricycle rides, even entered the city hall, so let’s work together to fight this virus,” the mayor added.
Oaminal said even though the national government has reiterated to the people the minimum health protocols, elected government officials are still obliged to protect the people they serve against the deadly virus.
“The responsibility is up to the people but this does not mean that we have nothing to do. We are the leaders, we are the ones who lead our barangay and our city. ”
The mayor challenged barangay leaders to arrest residents who do not comply with the health protocols. He also issued an order to suspend barangay captains who do not strictly implement the wearing of face masks outside of homes.
On September 11, the mayor suspended work at the City hall for disinfection after two employees have tested positive for COVID-19.
The City Health Office also recorded an increase of active COVID cases in the city. A senior citizen from Barangay Tinago, one from Santa Cruz, and one from Carmen Annex have expired due to COVID-19. (SMRN/PIA Misamis Occidental)
