CAGAYAN de Oro City–Councilor Reuben R. Daba has proposed the inclusion in Ordinance No. 13855-2020, known as the Community Quarantine Guidelines, Rules and Regulations of 2020, of a provision requiring all persons entering the city and its public places to wear or use face shield.
Daba, vice-chair of the City Council committee on health and health insurance, said during a pandemic or epidemic of infectious diseases which are air-borne or transmitted by respiratory droplets, one of the precautionary measures to prevent its spread is reverse isolation like the use of face mask and face shield as self-protection measures and community protection.
He added that face shield is a personal protective equipment device that can be used to protect the whole facial area, especially the eyes, nose and mouth, from droplet spreads of infection.
“Face shields are generally not used alone, but in conjunction with other protective equipment like mask, and are therefore classified as adjunctive personal protective equipment,” Daba stressed.
The Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Disease (IATF) and other government agencies has issued a protocol for the mandatory wearing of face shields in public transportation, work places, enclosed commercial places like shopping malls, banks, among others.
The Department of Transportation mandates all officials/heads of various transportation sectors to enjoin within their respective jurisdictions the mandatory wearing of face shields (aside from face masks) for all passengers in areas where public transportation is allowed, effective August 15, 2020.
The proposal of Councilor Daba will be discussed by the committee on health and health insurance chaired by Councilor Maria Lourdes Gaane during its meeting this afternoon at the City Council Session Hall. (SP/JBDacer).
