CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – A professional boxer, who trained in Cagayan de Oro during his younger days in boxing, was accused of raping a 14-year-old neighbor at around 4pm at his house in Cebu City, a police blotter report said yesterday.
Former WBO and WBC boxing champ Albert Pagara, 27, was arrested by the “tanods” (barangay police) and had him brought to Pardo Police Station on September 2.
The boxer did not resist when collared by some members of the barangay police, but he denied the allegations he raped the minor while sleeping in the house.
The 27-year-old Pagara, who was originally from Maasin, Southern Leyte, was among the world-rated boxers of the defunct ALA Boxing stable.
Initial investigations conducted by police probers said that around past 4pm on Wednesday, while the 14-year-old minor was sleeping, the boxer allegedly touched her private parts.
The investigation also disclosed that the girl was awakened by Pagara’s alleged sexual molestations but pretended to be sleeping as the boxer might hurt her and kill her if she would wake up.
Lieutenant Colonel Wilbert Parilla, deputy director for operations at the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) said that after the boxer was done, he left the house, and the girl found an opportune time to reveal to her mother what the boxer did to her.
The angry mother then reported to the barangay tanods (barangay police) who also arrested the boxer a few hours later.
The police official said the boxer’s denial was only an ‘alibi,’ adding that the police at Pardo Police Station will stand by the girl’s testimonies of her ordeal in hands of the former WBC champion.
A check of the minor at the Pink Room at Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City confirmed the 14-year-old neighbor was allegedly molested by the suspect.
