NPA kills soldier implementing ELCAC in Agusan del Norte

CAMP EVANGELISTA, Cagayan de Oro City: The army’s 4ID mourned the death of the soldier killed Sunday while facilitating the livelihood project in an outskirt village Agusan del Norte, the military said  Monday.
Sgt. Darryl Jay A Rivera, the Assistant Commander of the army’s Patrol Base in Sitio  Lusong, Puting Bato, an outskirt village of Cabadbaran City, Agusan de Norte, was killed when waylaid by an armed group  on their way to their patrol base Sunday.
Maj. Francisco Garello, Jr., the 4ID spokesperson, said that Rivera was riding a motorcycle together with John B. Odon, of the army’s Civilian Active Auxillary (CAA) force when ambushed by the armed group believed members of the outlawed New People’s Army (NPA).
Odon was slightly wounded, nut Rivera was fatally wounded resulting to his death, Garello,said.
He said that Rivera and Odon were on their way home to the Patrol Base after facilitating the livelihood project with stakeholders, the local government and private entities in Puting Bato.
Garello said that the project was under the auspices of the Regional Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (RTF-ELCAC). -0-
