GINGOOG CITY, Misamis Oriental (PIA)—To boost the region’s tourism industry, the Department of Tourism (DOT)-10 launched the first-ever Northern Mindanao Dive Festival at Kai Azul Beach Resort in Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental, July 22.
Divided into two segments, the festival comprises the Dive Festival Misamis Oriental leg, which will feature MisOr dive sites, including Gingoog—the host city, and the Camiguin leg, which will unfold this September.
“Part of this dive festival is an underwater clean-up, which we will be doing both ‘on-shore’ and ‘underwater.’ We will also have a photography contest,” says DOT-10 Regional Director Marie Elaine Unchuan.
She specified that the photography contest, which will be opened to all dive photographers from all over the country, will be a three-day event in September for Misamis Oriental, with awards and prizes offered by the provincial government and several sponsors.
“This is the first time this has happened in Misamis Oriental and northern Mindanao. This will be bringing dive tourists from all over the Philippines because this can attract our well-known photographers to visit our dive sites,” she added.
Meanwhile, the City Government of Gingoog is thankful to DOT-10 for organizing the event for Misamis Oriental and for choosing the city to host it. Furthermore, City Mayor Eric Cañosa said he, together with First District Rep. Christian Unabia and Gov. Peter Unabia will continue all of the plans that the agency has for their place since it is one way to increase the city’s employment and economic development.
Unchuan further said DOT-10 would never cease in promoting Misamis Oriental and Camiguin’s dive riches and dive potential. They also hope that this initiative can inspire other provinces in the region to do the same. (JAKA/PIA-10)
