NFA-10 receives 40,000 bags of local rice

A total of 40,000 bags of local rice will be transferred from the said region. These stocks will augment NFA-10’s inventory to meet rice needs of local government units (LGUs), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and other government agencies.

Currently, stocks are strategically received at the Patag and Baloy warehouses in NFA Misamis Oriental to facilitate easier dispersal to other provinces in the region.

Under the Rice Tariffication Law (RA 11203), NFA-10 is no longer allowed to import rice, as it is mandated to maintain sufficient buffer rice stock through procurement solely from local farmers.

NFA shall procure palay locally and maintain the optimal level of buffer stock at all times, and should be strategically located across the country. lt shall manage efficiently and effectively the acquisition, quality maintenance, and disposition of the buffer stock during emergencies and calamities.

In response to COVID-19 pandemic, NFA-10 has issued a total of 153,013 bags of 50 kgs to meet the rice requirements of government relief agencies from March 19 to August 19, which include 47,352 bags to DSWD and its local units in the region, 105,541 bags LGUs, and 120 bags to legislators, namely Senators Cynthia Villar and Grace Poe.
