CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – A top-official of the health department here has warned hard-headed coronavirus disease patients for being 'uncooperative.'

Dr Lorraine Nery, acting chief of the City Health Department said covid patients might face sanctions for not following the pandemic response of the City Government.

She said the city health department will issue a public advisory giving stern warning to city residents, stating that they will face charges as embodied on Republic Act 11332 or otherwise known as "Mandatory Reporting of Notifiable Diseases and Health Events of Public Health Concern Act."

Nery warned: “Stubborn" Covid-19-positive patients and their close contacts may face charges for not cooperating with the local government unit (LGU) in its pandemic response.

Nery said the law has been shelved and it's about time to put teeth on this law and penalize uncooperative covid-19 patients.

"There are still some that have a little aggression because they don't want to be extracted. Ever since, we have experienced these kinds of challenges," she added, referring to Covid-19 patients and suspected patients, and their close contacts, who refuse to be extracted from their houses going to the city's patient care centers.

Menwhile, City Mayor Oscar Moreno told reporters that extraction procdures is one of the mandatory procedures implemented by the city to fight against emerging and rising cases of covid in the city.

"If we talk about transmission, there is a great risk for those positive cases who are still (doing) home quarantine. Even if they are isolated inside their houses, the chances of transmission are very high," the mayor pointed out. - (PNA)
