Duque expressed the alarm about confirmed reports of the presence of the deadly Delta Variant virus in Cagayan de Oro City and Gingoog City in Misamis Oriental.

The Department of Health (DOH) central office in Manila reported about the detection of five Delta Variant virus  cases in Misamis Oriental and Cagayan de Oro City.

The cases were traced to a family in Macanhan, Carmen in Cagayan de Oro City and in Gingoog City who were already  confined in an isolation center.

Duque said that the local goveenent and health officials must inventory the oxygen supplies for medical use to be able to address the need should the Delta variant virus  spread uncontrollably in the locality.

“We do not want to experience the oxygen shortages in   Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand when cases of the Delta variant virus spread in their  countries,” Duque said.

Duque also reiterated to strictly observe the health protocols: washing of hands, social distancing, face mask and crowd avoidance  as an effective  COVID virus deterrent.

According to Joselito Retuya, the city’s epidemiologist, said that the Delta variant traces were found when the samples of COVID-19 positive patients here  were sent to Manila for genome analysis in June 2021.

He said that  the COVID -19 positive patients who were found to bave traces of Delta Variant virus were already recovered when the DOH reported the cases.

Retuya, however, said that the  family were immediately recalled to the isolation center and were found to have been COVID-19 positive of  again.

Duque, chairman of the national Inter-Agency Task Force  for the Management of Emerging Recurring Infectious Diseases (IATF-MERID), was in Cagayan de Oro together with members of the IATF-MERID officials to personally assessed and institute measures to prevent the spread  of COVID-19 Delta Variant virus in the city and its neighboring towns and cities. -0-
