LAWYER Elvira Cruz, the newly installed district collector of the Bureau of Customs revenue district in Northern Mindanao, expressed hope that the office under her supervision will continue exceeding targets as they have been in the past two years.
Cruz took over the position from district collector from John Simon who has been in this job since September 2019.
Cruz inherited managing four ports in the district – Port of Cagayan de Oro, Mindanao Container Terminal, Iligan Subport and Ozamiz Subport.
In 2020 alone, the Bureau of Customs Port of Cagayan de Oro collected P29.3 billion, exceeding its target of P25.8 billion.
Aside from revenue generation, Cruz also vowed to continue the Customs district’s performance in the area of trade facilitation.
The Northern Mindanao collection district currently holds the record of 24 minutes release time of cargo, surpassing the Asean standard of 30 minutes.
Cruz was recently reinstated the position of district collector by the Civil Service Commission (CSC).
In a five-page decision dated April 6, the CSC ruled that Cruz must be reinstated with the position of district collector and her demotion in 2019 by then Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero as illegal.
In his valedictory speech, Simon thanked the men and women of Collection District 10 for helping him realize the bureau’s vision which is to be a modernized and credible customs administration which is among the world’s best.
