CARMEN, North Cotabato – A lockdown at barangay Poblacion in Carmen, this province was ordered by the local Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) as covid-19 cases surge, reports reaching MDNN said.

Carmen Town Mayor Moises Arendain, chair of the local IATF, said the decision was hard but it was made after the agency finds it difficult to locate the local contacts of those who have been contracted with the 'killer' virus.

The mayor said in a local radio interview: “The IATF could not locate individuals who have close contacts with the Covid-19 patients unless we declare a lockdown,”

Mayor Arendain said the lockdown period will start at 12noon on May 17, and until 12 noon also on June 1.

The mayor added that the infection was started with barangay residents who reportedly attended parties in other town activities "unknowingly brought the virus."

Health officials confirmed the poblacion has now a total of 46 active Covid-19 cases and 8 of these people were government employees of the municipality.

AS this infection developed, Mayor Arendain said the LGU has prepared a total of 15,000 families, and their budget would be good for the next two weeks, it was learned.

The local government only allows persons with essential business to leave the village especially during the quarantine period.

“I hope everybody will cooperate, this is for your own good, obey IATF policies,” the official said. (PNA)
