CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY: Police rounded up 32 people, seized P 102,000 bet money and impounded 48 vehicles during a raid on alleged illegal gambling den in Misamis Oriental, the police said Tuesday
Maj. Christian Relevo, the police provincial spokesperson of Misamis Oriental, said that the alleged operator of the illegal gambling den identified as Sari Iras escaped.
Relevo said that Iras, of Cagayan de Oro City, a retired police officer, reportedly maintained and operated the illegal cockfighting in the gambling den located in Lagtang, Alubijid Misamis Oriental.
He said that six teams from the Misamis Oriental police provincial special operation team led by Lt. Col. Jolito Caseres swooped down on the illegal gambling den Sunday afternoon.
He said that the police responded to reports of the illegal activities and complaints about unidentified individuals converging in the area while Misamis Oriental is under the General Community Quarantine (GCQ) under heightened alert.
Also seized in the area were “live and dead” figthing cocks, gambling cards, mahjong sets and other paraphernalia used in illegal cockfight, Relevo said.
He said the suspects who were charged Monday with violation of the COVID-19 Inter Agency Task Force (IATF) protocol and illegal gambling under Presidential Decree 1602. -0-
