CAMP EVANGELISTA, Cagayan de Oro City: A female child warrior together with two combatants of the New People's Army (NPA) was killed while another child warrior was captured in a series of armed clashes in the hinterlands of Caraga Region, the military said Friday.
Maj. Rodolfo S. Cordero, Jr,, of the 4ID Public Affairs Division, said that the 12-year old female child warrior (name withheld) was among the fatalities, while another female child warrior was captured in the encounter site.
He said that the minor (name withheld) was a girl who was armed when captured and was later turned over to the social welfare and development in Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur.
Cordero identified the two other slain NPA rebels as Lenie Perez Rivas, 38, and Willy Salinas Rodriguez, 20, all members of the Sub-Regional Sentro de Grabidad Southland, North Eastern Mindanao Regional Committee (NEMRC).
Cordero said that the government troops seized black powder, blasting caps, and assorted nails, which are integral components of an anti-personnel landmine at the encounter site.
Lt. Col. Benedict Harvey Gernale, Commanding Officer of the army's 3rd Special Forces Battalion, said that the armed clashes took place in the borders of Diatagon, Lianga, Surigao del Sur and Mabuhay, Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur.
He said that the first armed encounter took place in Mabuhay, Prosperidad, Agusam del Sur that turned into a two-day running gun battle toward the boundary of Lianga, Surigao del Sur.-0-
