New public transpo terminal, food court eyed to boost Catarman’s econ

CATARMAN, Camiguin (PIA)–With the establishment of the P48.4 million new Catarman public transport terminal and food court, the Local Government of Catarman sees better opportunities to mobilize the economic activities of the town.

“With this establishment, makita nato clean, cozy to dine in, so naa na ta’y ma-cater with our tourists nga muanhi diri sa atong lungsod sa Catarman kay it’s a common gyud nga na’y muabot diri, maudtuhan sila, magproblema sila asa sila maniudto,” said Catarman Mayor Kiterio Antonio Palarca II during the blessing of the new public transport terminal and food court, March 31.

(JME/PIA-10/Camiguin)

(With this establishment, we make sure that it is clean and cozy to dine in, so we can cater to our tourists who come here in our town of Catarman because it’s really common that they come here, they get bored, and they have problems where they can have lunch)

The soft opening of the establishment is also targeted to accommodate locals and tourists during the holy week. Thus, the transportation terminal was already open for use starting April 1, 2023.

Established through the 20% development fund of the municipal government, the 2,208 square meter project includes a two-story building, a wet market, a food court, and a terminal.

As the town is known for its numerous tourist destinations, Palarca said the facility will help make food available for tourists as well as boost the livelihood of the people in Catarman.

The Land Bank of the Philippines will also put up an automated teller machine (ATM) in the area so it will be easier for the locals and tourists to make necessary cash transactions.

“I’d like to thank the LandBank of the Philippines that finally naa na gyud ta’y ATM sa LandBank diri sa atong lungsod sa (we already have a LandBank ATM here in our town of) Catarman. I am more than happy, and that is because nakita nako gyud ang struggle sa Catarmanon (I really saw the struggle of the Catarmanon),” Palarca said.

He added that the availability of the machine will also help the members of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) as well as the retirees who currently have to rent vehicles just to withdraw their money from another town with an ATM.

Also, to entice tourists to stay longer or be more frequent in the town, a night market with live bands will be held in the new facility every weekend.

Aside from making sure that goods and services are available in that public market 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, the LGU will also give guidelines to the transport sector so that vehicles and passengers can be managed in an orderly way. (RTP/PIA-10/Camiguin)
