New PDEA head takes oath in CDO

ILIGAN CITY —– The new head of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) took his oath Thursday (May 28) morning at a court in Cagayan de Oro City where drug cases are heard.

 Judge Arthur Abundiente, presiding judge of the Regional Trial Court Branch 25, said newly-appointed PDEA Director-General Wilkins Villanueva arrived at the court room few minutes before 8:00AM.

 He is a graduate of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) in 1988.

“He took his oath at exactly 8AM,” Abundiente said.

 Abundiente said, aside from drug cases, violations of international humanitarian laws and genocides are also heard at RTC 25.

 Villanueva said while he can take his oath through any elected official or member of the judiciary but “I just want to immediately perform my official duty so I opt to ask Judge Abundiente to administer my oath”.

 Villanueva was appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte replacing former PDEA Director-General Aaron Aquino who was appointed as president and chief executive officer of the Clark International Airport Corp. (CIAC).

 Villanueva was PDEA Northern Mindanao’s regional director before his latest appointment.
