COTABATO CITY — The Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD) commemorated the International Women’s Day and kicked off the Women’s Month celebration earlier today with an opening salvo aimed at promoting the rights and welfare of women deprived of liberty.

MSSD Minister Atty. Raissa H. Jajurie led the event and facilitated the distribution of hygiene kits and meals to 27 women deprived of liberty. Each kit contains essential items such as bath soap, shampoo, sanitary napkin, blanket, and other personal care products.

In her message, Minister Jajurie emphasized the importance of recognizing the rights of women, especially those who are deprived of liberty, and ensuring that they are treated with respect and dignity.

“Gusto natin ay kahit nasa loob tayo ng kulungan ay makatarungan pa rin ang ating kalagayan. Kasama po ito sa pagsisiguro na humane ang treatment sa mga PDLs” added Minister Jajurie. (We want to ensure that while you are inside the prison, your situation remains just. This is part of ensuring humane treatment for PDLs.)

By providing them hygiene kits, the Ministry hopes to help improve the health and well-being of women deprived of liberty and contribute to their overall rehabilitation.

A Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) session, led by Women’s Welfare Program Focal Faida Ensanah and Recovery and Reintegration Program for Trafficked Persons (RRPTP) Focal Jan Michelle Agata, was also conducted, wherein the women were given a chance to express themselves in the various interactive activities and sharing session.

This event marks the beginning of MSSD’s series of activities during this month anchored on the theme “WE for Gender Equity and Inclusive Society”. The Ministry also expresses its dedication to working with various stakeholders to ensure that women’s rights are respected, protected, and fulfilled.

The MSSD team was welcomed by Chief Inspector Tadie S. Dipangampong and other Cotabato City Jail officers.
