Moreno orders probe on RTA personnel tagged in ‘extortion’

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Mayor Oscar S. Moreno has ordered a thorough investigation the other day on the alleged extortion activities of one of the employees of the Roads and Traffic Administration (RTA).

The city police office identified the traffic enforcer as Barry Moore Saludares, a resident of Xavier Heights Subdivision, this city, and a regular employee of the City Government. He has been serving the City as a traffic enforcer for more than 10 years, report said.

“I understand naa puy pistola nga na-recover sa iyang posession, so he has to respond. Nag text sa ako si Col Borlagdatan (RTA consultant). Ang akong tubag sa iya let us respect the law and all legal processes. No one is above the law,” said Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Oscar Moreno in an interview with a local radio station here.

Moreno said Saludares has to answer all the accusations lodged against him as allegedly an extortionist and also the firearm he was carrying during his arrest.

A .45 caliber pistol was recovered from the suspect during an entrapment operation which also added to his burden aside from the alleged extortion activities of the traffic enforcer.

RTA Deputy for Administration Doy Ramero said that Saludares would not be able to go back to his work due to the level of offenses he has committed being a regular employee of the City Government.

Ramero said if the court found him guilty of the charges, the more that he would not be able to continue his services at the City Government of Cagayan de Oro.

Meanwhile, Saludares denied all the reported ‘extortion activities’ pointed against him. He said these were only accusations of people he apprehended and issued citation tickets due to various violations.

“Wala lage ko kadawat ug kwarta. Suko lang siya nako kay gidakop nako siya,” Saludares was referring to the complainant who reported to police authorities that later also resulted in an entrapment operation against him.
