Misamis Oriental in festive mood as Kuyamis opens Jan 6

MISAMIS Oriental–The 7th Kuyamis Festival officially starts today (January 6) and will culminate on January 11, said Provincial Tourism Officer Atty. Jeffrey Saclot.

Saclot said that one of the flagship programs of Governor Yevgeny Vincente "Bambi" Emano is about promoting tourism, celebrate agricultural abundance, and the commemoration of the founding anniversary of the province of Misamis Oriental.

Today's opening ceremony marks the opening of dozens of activities excluding the exhibits at the capitol grounds and nightly entertainment showcase.

Saclot said that aside from cash prizes a million worth of project will also be given to the winning municipality in the Festival Dance competition, one of the major highlights of Kuyamis. Some 21 towns and the component cities of Gingoog and El Salvador are expected to participate in the dance festival or, the Streetdancing tilt that is going to happen on January 8.

Aside from the  Booth competition, which will be set up at the De Lara Park on the capitol grounds, other activities line up include the Culture and Arts Exhibit at Centrio Ayala Mall, Street dancing, and the Miss Kuyamis 2020 Coronation Night at El Salvador City gym on January 9.

The first Explore MisOr Mindanao Overland Expedition will be conducted on January 10 where hundreds of riders and enthusiasts signified the intention to join the event.

Sac lot said Kuyamis Festival was the brainchild of Bambi Emano. It begun in 2013 with only the Booth and Streetdancing competitions.

Tourism complex

Meanwhile, Saclot announced that the facelift of a shrine in Claveria town where the ill-fated Cebu Pacific Flight 387 crashed will soon commence as soon as thr bidding process will be completed.

Saclot said the renovation of the shrine is in support of the intensified branding of Misamis Oriental as a tourism hub not only in Mindanao, but globally.

The area when full developed will be equip with all the amenities where local farmers can sell their farm produce.

"We welcome the partnership of the private sector in the improvement and development of Misamis Oriental," said Saclot apparently referring to the financial assistance extended by the Steag State Power, Inc.
