CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY: Military operatives overran a training camp of the communist New People’s Army (NPA) in Bukidnon foiling a large-scale attack against private construction companies, civilian targets, and military bases to celebrate the National Democratic Front (NDF’s) 48th Anniversary on April 24, 2021.
The 30- minute armed encounter resulted in the killing of an amazon combatant and the recovery of a cache of fire arms, ammunitions, personal belongings and subversive documents.
A statement released by the army’s Public Affairs Division, said that the elements of the Army’s elite irst Special Forces Battalion were dispatched deep into the jungles of Kalatungan Mountain Range in Valencia City, Bukidnon after receiving reports of the massing of the NPA rebel forces in the area.
Lt. Col. Vercisio G. San Jose, Jr, commanding officer of the special forces, said that the operatives met about 50 heavily armed NPA rebels of the sub-regional command of the North Central Mindanao Regional Committee.
San Jose said that an amazon was killed while several NPA rebels were wounded due to blood stains along their withdrawal routes.
The teams captured one high-powered firearm, a vast cache of ammunition, Improvised Explosive Devices, and documents of solid proof of their plans to overthrow the government and destroy the lives of innocent civilians.
San Jose said that the body of the Amazon combatant was turned over to the parents in the village of Lilingayon, in Valencia City, Bukidnon.
San Jose did not release the name of the fatality although the parents admitted that their daughter wanted to surrender a long time ago to tend to their children, but her husband who was also an NPA rebel refused to yield. -0-
