Mayor Uy hails KES for winning drum and lyre competition

MISAMIS Oriental–Villanueva town Mayor Jennie Rosalie Uy yesterday commended the Kalingagan Elementary School (KES) for winning the championship crown of the Drum and Lyre competition organized by the Rotary Club of South-Cagayan de Oro 3870 held at the Gregorio Pelaéz Sports Complex in Cagayan de Oro City on November 19, 2017.

The KES was crowned champion in the same competition in 2015 and repeated the same feat in 2016.

This year, the KES was not only crowned as champion, but also went home bagging numerous awards such as Best in Rotary Theme Integration, Best in Marching Routines, and Best in Costume.

The Kalingagan Elementary School bested other drum and lyre contingents from Iligan City Central School, East City Central School and South City Central School of Cagayan de Oro, and Gingoog City Central School.

The success was made possible through the unified sacrifices and efforts of the students, parents, faculty and staff of the Kalingagan Elementary School with the support of the Barangay Council of Imelda headed by Punong Barangay Hermil Valledor and the Local Government Unit of Villanueva under the leadership of Mayor Jennie Rosalie Uy.

Prior to the competition, Mayor Uy turned over drum and lyre instruments to Kalingagan Elementary School through Shiela Ma. Cristina N. Pasaporte, the school’s officer in-charge.

The instruments include eight pieces King Lyre, four pieces Snare Drum, three pieces Bass Drum, three pieces Cymbals, two pieces Double Drum, three pieces Triple Drum, 48 pieces Baton, 104 pieces Boots and Band uniform for girls and boys.

Pasaporte, speaking on behalf of Kalingagan Elementary School Principal Gemalyn P. Villanueva, thanked Mayor Uy for her support.

Present at the turned-over ceremony were Punong Barangay Hermil Valledor, Barangay Kagawad Arturo Ubalde, and General Parents-Teachers Association (GPTA) President of KES Marilyn Simacon, teachers and the pupils.
