DAVAO CITY – Mayor Sara Z. Duterte, the presidential daughter and incumbent mayor of this city told the media in her recent tour in Cebu City that she is “open” to the idea of ‘gunning for the country’s top post’ in the 2022 national elections.
Mayor Sara and his party went to Cebu City on July 9 and made a courtesy visit at the Provincial Capitol and met with Governor Gwendolyn Garcia.
In an interview with the local media in Cebu, Mayor Sara said she is “open” for any possibilites in the 2022 elections.
The presidential daughter did not categorically said she is running for president in next year’s presidential elections but her statements, confirming that she is “open” for possibilities, would seemingly be tantamount to considering the top post in the next elections in 2022.
She said her presence in Cebu City is meant to “scan the environment,” in response to the growing clamor from her supporters in Cebu City, asking the mayor to run for president.
Mayor Sara said she had earlier asked permission to Cebu Mayor Gwendolyn Garcia to visit Cebu City and meet her growing supporters in Visayas.
As the mayor reached the “Queen city of the South,” “Run Sara Run” tarps also flooded the main thoroughfares of Cebu City, urging the presidential daughter to take the lead in the next administration that will govern the country.
“I thank my supporters here in Cebu, for their trust and confidence in me,” the Davao City Mayor told the media in Cebuano.
Sara said she is also interested in meeting the ‘Cebuanos’ to thank for their support, as well as ask them “what they really want.”
“It is important for us in HNP to talk to the people, a lot of people, and Governor Garcia allowed us to do so,” she said in vernacular.
The mayor has also clarified that among their itinerary in Cebu is not only to meet the governor but to observe regarding the operations of the Cebu airport.
The presidential daughter’s visit to Cebu was accompanied by Governor Claude Bautista of Davao Occidental, while Cebu Representative Duke Frasco of the Fifth District of Cebu was also present during Duterte’s short visit to the Governor office. – PNA
