CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – A long time market vendor at Barangay Carmen Market, this city, was shot dead early dawn (May 17) by still unidentified assailant, the police reported.
PMSgt Francisco Tumanda, case investigator, has identified the victim as Junior Ompoc, 42, a resident of Carmen, this city. Â
Ompoc was shot in the chest and on his head along Lirio Street, this city, which had caused his untimely demise.
The police are ‘still facing a blank wall’ as to the motive of the killing. But witnesses said he was shot only by his companion.
Tumanda said based on accounts of the trisikad driver who witnessed the incident, the victim and his companion were on board a motorcycle and they were in a heated argument when they passed by at him.
Quoting a live interview by Magnum Radyo anchored by Percid Blanca, trisikad driver Manong Nocor said after shooting the victim, the killer went down from the motorcycle and cover the victim’s face with a white handkierchief.
“Nakita nako nga sa dihang nahagba na ang biktima mikanaug pa sa motor ang suspect ug gitabunan niyag panyo nga puti ang biktima unya nibiya dayun kini sa nahitaboan,” the trike driver said.
Meanwhile, it was also learned from the victim’s colleagues inside the market that Junior was a good man. They never heard of him having a quarrel or grudges with someone in the market or anywhere else.
“Buotan man kaayo to siya sir. Ulitawo pana siya hangtod naminyo nalang vendor nana daan dire sa Carmen Market, one of the victim’s vendor-friends narrated.
She said the victim has three stalls inside the market and he also runs a lending business.
The victim’s was reportedly heading to his stalls as he usually did during early dawn, to open his store to people who usually buy during early dawn.
