Marawi IDPs receive hygiene kits from private orgs

MARAWI CITY, Aug. 6 (PIA) — In its continuing efforts to help curb the spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the Agency for Technical Cooperation and Development (ACTED) and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugee (UNCHR) distributed hygiene kits to internally displaced persons living in various transitory shelters in this city.

ACTED and UNHCR partnered with the Task Force Bangon Marawi and 82nd Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army to distribute the kits containing a pail, water dipper, malong, underwears, sanitary napkins, bath soaps, laundry soap, shampoo, toothbrushes,  slippers, alcohol and hand sanitizer.

ACTED Project Manager Luz Padriquez said they target four transitory shelter sites for this COVID-19 Response Project.

“For the IDP beneficiaries, sa kinakaharap natin ngayon, huwag tayong mawalan ng pag-asa[let us not lose hope]. Let’s keep our health high.  Magtiwala tayo sa ating May Kapal at malalagpasan din natin itong lahat [Let us trust our God that we will overcome all of this],” said Padriquez.

Noraisah Dumaronsing and Suhaima Didato, both IDPs in Area 6 of Biyaya ng Pagbabago, Sagonsongan Transitory Shelter Site expressed gratitude for the assistance provided to them.

“Maraming salamat sa binigay na tulong kasi ito ay importante sa amin. Para sa IDPs, kailangan maghugas ng kamay parati at magsuot ng face mask,” said Dumaronsing.

[Thank you very much for this assistance because it is important for us. For IDPs, we need to wash our hands and to always wear face mask.]

Didato also reminded her fellow IDP to observe social distancing to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

“Kailangan nating mag-ingat dahil sa pandemic. Kailangan natin magkaroon ng social distancing,” she said.

[We need to protect ourselves because of this pandemic. We also need to observe social distancing.]

ACTED is also set to distribute the kits in Boganga Transitory Shelter Site, Rorogagus Transitory Shelter Site and Areas 2 and 5 of Sagonsongan Transitory Shelter Site.

Under its Water, Hygiene and Sanitation Response, ACTED also spearheaded the rehabilitation of water system in Bakwit Village Phase 1 in Matungao, Lanao del Norte. (LELA/PIA ICIC)
