NEW DELHI, India – A man with the ‘world’s largest family’ of 39 wives and 94 siblings has already died on June 13, this year. He was 76 at the time of his death.
In a report gathered by MDNN International, Pastor Ziona Chana, leader of a local Christian sect known as “Chana” was confirmed dead by the Indian media. Although, it was not clear how he died but the Indian media reported complications of his diabetes was among the top illness that pushed him to die.

“Chana christian sect” has allowed practice polygamy in its members according to Zoramthanga, chief minister of Mizoram town.
At the time of his death, Chana has 166 family members. He married to 39 wives and still want for more as the state also gave him religious freedom to exercise his religion and polygamy.
Ziona lives with his 39 wives, 94 siblings and 33 grandchildren at the spacious pink building with 100 rooms in Baktawng, a remote community village in Mizoram.
His group became famous when the local and international media discovered and made coverages on his sect. His village instantly became known and it also became a tourist attraction, says Zoramthanga.
The “Chana Christian sect” was founded by his father sometime in 1942.
He married to his first wife when he was 17 year’s old. He was even proud when he married to 10 women in a span of one year.
The local media in India had earlier reported that his wives live in a dormitory. Ziona often wants to sleep with at least 8 women every night according to the local media reports.
In 2011, Ziona told reporters he still wants to mary more women to increase their numbers to more than 39.
“I am ready to expand my family and willing to go to any extent to marry… I have so many people to care for and look after, and I consider myself a lucky man,” the sect leader concluded. – Credit to Alasdair Pal and Adnan Abidi of Reuters
