Garello said that the combined elements of the 8IB and the intelligence team of the army’s 403rd Infantry Brigade engaged in a 15-minute gun battle with an undetermined number of armed group headed by Madlos while conducting combat operations in the area.

He said that the military was deployed in response to information of the local residents about the presence of the armed group in the area who were reportedly recruiting and extorting money from the residents in the hinterland villages.

Madlos is the son of George Madlos, head of the NPA’s NOC, who was also killed in an encounter with the military in Impasug-ong Bukidnon sometime in October 2021.

Col Ted B Dumosmog, Officer-In-Charge of 403rd Infantry Brigade, said that Madlos was the subject of multiple warrants of arrests for the crimes committed from different areas in Caraga and Northern Mindanao regions.

Recovered from the encounter site were two AK-47 rifles in the possession of Madlos and Salinas, several AK-47 magazines with live ammos, medicines, and subversive documents.

In a statement, 4ID Commander MGen. Wilbur C. Mamawag expressed his disappointment over death of the Madlos’ couple and the reminded the remaining NPA rebels of the opportunity to surrender and avoid the same tragic fate in the future.
