CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – THE Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) in Northern Mindanao has now tapped a total of 189 units for its Libreng Sakay program, prioritizing hospital workers with ten trips per day in each route.
The government’s Libreng Sakay program was launched to especially help frontliners and other essential workers that travel to their workplaces during the quarantine implementation.
According to LTFRB 10 director Aminoden Guro, Region 10 alone has been allocated P135 million for the program’s second tranche which started last September 14.
The service contracting program allows drivers to earn based on the number of kilometers traveled, instead of the number of passengers.
“N’a ‘tay gi-install na GPS system kada sakyanan to ensure nga ang driver wala nilapas sa iya ruta,” Guro said.
The government pays P82.50 for every kilometer traveled for buses and P52 for modernized jeepneys.
Along this line, Guro said they are focusing on hospital-based trips for this second tranche.
Drop-off points here in Cagayan de Oro City include Capitol University Medical Center, Maria Reyna Hospital, Northern Mindanao Medical Center, Sabal Hospital, Cagayan de Oro Medical Center, Polymedic General Hospital, Madonna and Child Hospital, JR Borja General Hospital and Polymedic Plaza.
