Liceo de Cagayan University in Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines, is proud to announce that it will host a world-class international musical event, the International Franz And Carl Doppler Flute Competition 2024.
With world-class adjudicators and an outstanding performing arts center, Liceo de Cagayan University expects flutists from all over the world to travel to southern Philippines where the final rounds of the competition will be held on site from April 1 until April 7, 2024.
Friends and interpreters of flute music from the 19th century as well as today’s flute students can’t get past the Doppler brothers, but even some 150 years later the Doppler name still stands live and vivid for outstanding flute music.
Franz Doppler, together with his younger brother Carl, were two of the greatest flute virtuosos of the 19th century. Between 1852 and 1862, the Doppler brothers performed as a duo in all European music centers.
Franz Doppler was also one of the most popular flute composers and today his works are part of the curricula of conservatories and are heard in solo performances by flutists all over the world. His younger brother Carl worked as music director at Theaters in Budapest, Vienna and Stuttgart.
Some 150 years later, a descendant of the Doppler brothers has set out to conquer the world as a flute virtuoso.
Ulrich Müller Doppler, the Artistic Director of our International Franz & Carl Doppler Flute Competition 2024, actively performs on all continents and his family owns several manuscripts of compositions by the Doppler brothers.
Together with other international experts such as Prof. Dr. Rudolf Golez, Prof. Horst-Hans Bäcker and Prof. Thomas Schüle from Liceo Music Conservatory, Herr Ulrich Müller Doppler initiated this international competition for flute performers named after his famous forebears. The organizers aim to establish this competition among the best events for flutists round the world.
The International Franz & Carl Doppler Flute Competition invites flutists from all over the world to register online from October 1, 2022 to August 1, 2023 for the first round (video round). The competition will be held in two categories, Flute Solo and Piano, and Two Flutes and Piano. Participants should be between 16 to 32 years of age.
