CAMP EVANGELISTA, Cagayan De Oro City–A combined military and police operatives collared a top official of the communist New People’s Army (NPA) in Surigao Del Sur and recovered various high-powered firearms and explosives, the military reported Sunday.
Sarvina Rivas Quijano, a.k.a “Soping” was nabbed on board a multi-cab vehicle with plate number YCZ-583 driven by Jovencito P. Lozada, in a checkpoint in San Miguel, Surigao Del Sur.
Lt. Krisjuper Andreo J. Punsalan, spokesperson of the Surigao-based 3rd Special Forces Army Battalion, said that the law enforcers became suspicious when they noticed in plain view the protruding rifle grenade in the vehicle.
A search on the vehicle reportedly turned out two improvised explosive devices (IEDs), blasting cap with detonating cord, three rifle grenades, five analog cellular phones, one laptop computer, subversive documents, numerous SIM cards, external drive and a memory card allegedly owned by the Quijano.
Punsalan said that a former rebel later identified Quijano as the finance staff of the communist New People’s Army (NPA), Northeastern Military Regional Command (NEMRC) based in Surigao del Sur.
He said that Quijano was the alleged widow of Marcelino Tampos Navarro a.k.a “Marsing”, the Head of Education and Propaganda Committee and the Deputy Secretary of NEMRC who killed in an encounter with government forces at Sitio Panukmoan, Diatagon, Lianga in July this year.
