Lanao Sur guv wants investigation against ‘jail guard’ arrested for transporting P1.3M worth of meth

ILIGAN CITY —– Lanao del Sur Provincial Governor Mamintal Adiong, Jr. had asked the provincial legal office to investigate the suspect, claiming to be a provincial guard, who was nabbed on Sunday, March 8, for transporting a 1.3 million-peso worth of meth.

In a statement sent to media Tuesday afternoon, Adiong said the suspect Walid Nasser Usman, a resident n Baloi, Lanao del Norte “is not and has never been an employee or worker of the Provincial Government of Lanao del Sur.”

Usman was arrested by the Regional Drug Enforcement Unit (RDEU) 10, who tailed him from Iligan City, in a checkpoint in Barangay Tampilong, Marawi City and siezed from him around 200 grams of suspected shabu.

Operatives also recovered from him an identification card with the logo of the provincial jail, his name and photos and name with signature of Adiong.

“The identification card allegedly issued by the Office of the Provincial Warden of Lanao del Sur, which was confiscated from Mr. Usman by the police authorities, is fake. OIC Provincial Warden Acmad Tabao has also reiterated that the suspect is not a regular, temporary or casual employee of the said office”, the statement stated.

“I have requested the Provincial Prosecutor of Lanao del Sur to investigate this matter, with our Provincial Legal Office, to provide full support to the investigation.
We would like to assure everyone that those found guilty shall be dealt with accordingly, and with full force of the law,” Adiong in a statement added.

In an interview, Tabao said while they know of the suspect because his father is a computer encoder of the provincial jail office, the younger Usman was never their employee.

Report from the public information office of the Police Regional Office (PRO) 10 states that Usman is tagged as high valued individual (HVI) based on the volume of drugs he was transporting.

Lieutenant Colonel Mardy Hortillosa, public information officer of PRO 10, said Usman has been under surviellance for one month before his arrest.
