The Feast of Saint Augustine is fast approaching and the City Government of Cagayan de Oro and other government agencies supporting the fiesta celebrations are now preparing for the lined up events.
Among the biggest events to happen this year is Kumbira’s 25th anniversary jointly sponsored and managed by the City Government and the Cagayan de Oro Hotel and Restaurant Association (COHARA).
This year, according to Cohara, there will be three live competitions in culinary, pastry and bar service.
But due to the ongoing threats of the pandemic, participants are only allowed to register online. Videos of their entries will also be received online and deadline of video tape submission is on July 22. Top five (5) participants will advance to the LIve Competition and will be advised of dates and details of the event.
Master Chef Competition
The Master Chef Competition is one of the highlights of this year’s 25th anniversary of Cohara. This is the battle of chefs in cooking the best and most delicious Filipino dish. Every contestant is to prepare and cook an original dish using local ingredient – coconut for one hour. Contest organizers will screen video-taped submission of their entries where they showcase their cooking skill on any dish they have chosen. The audition tape will be judged by a panel of judges composed of the organizer and professional chefs.
What is Kumbira?
Kumbira an annual culinary festival , is the flagship project of the Cagayan de Oro Hotel and Restaurant Association-COHARA.
Kumbira aims to showcase the best culinary creations of the Region while incorporating latest culinary trends. It also aims to promote healthy competition and camaraderie among the different hotels and restaurants, schools, as well as, elevate the standards of the culinary industry in the Region. The event also featured renowned Chefs and Industry practitioners as Judges who will help hone the various skills, artistry and creativeness of the food and beverage practitioners and students in the competitions.
Started in 1996, Kumbira is the longest-running annual culinary arts show and competitions outside of Metro Manila. It aims to:
1. Recognize and showcase the culinary skills and talents of both professionals and students.
2. Develop creativity and excellence in food and beverage artistry through various competitions and exhibitions.
3. Upgrade and professionalize the food and beverage industry.
