METRO MANILA – A top-ranking official of the Philippine National Police revealed that Kim Chiu's ambush on Wednesday (March 4) along katipunan Avenue in Quezon City was a case of mistaken identity, although they are not discounting the possibility that there maybe be another angle of the incident.
PBGen Ronnie Montejo, Director of the Quezon City Police Department said whoever did the crime has the intention to really kill their target as they peppered the vehicle with bullets.
"Once there was shooting, there is already an intention of killing the target…yang angle ng mistaken identity pwede din yan," Montejo said
Montejo also told reporters a taskforce will be created to investigate further and identify the motorcycle-riding-tandem involved in the shooting of Chiu's hi-roof van.
Police investigation conducted by the QCPD revealed that Artist Kim Chiu (Kimberly Sue Yap Chiu in real life), was along Katipunan Avenue, corner CP Garcia Avenue, with her Personal Assistant Mayrin Nasara and driver Wilfredo Taperla, when they heard gunshots but they didn't mind it.
"Kanina mga 6:10 am sir galing kami sa subdivision palabas ng Katipunan avenue intersection to GP Garcia avenue "Akala namin may nagkaputukan lang. Di namin napansin na pinapaputukan na pala kami," the driver Wilfredo Taperla said.
Chiu also narrated in between sobs that she was very thankful that no one from the three of them were hit by the bullets. "Nagpapasalamat nalang ako na walang nasaktan sa amin," the actress said.
Chiu said she cannot even remember if they have grudge with anybody. "Wala talaga akong maalala kung mayron kaming naalitan kaya iniisip ko rin kung nagkamali lang ba ang taong bumaril sa amin," Kim Chu said.
The motive is not known at press time while police authorities are still conducting further investigation to the shooting incident.
Chiu is one of ABS CBN's bankable and biggest stars who started her career when she joined Pinoy Big Brother and won.
