CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The police yesterday filed reckless imprudence resulting into multiple homicide, multiple serious physical injuries and damage to property charges to the driver of the truck involved in the deadly collision last December 5, 2022, police authorities reported.
Police Corporal Rodulfo Abaday, traffic investigator of Puerto Police Station identified the truck driver as a certain Julieto Jabagat Telen.
Corporal Abaday said they file the charges in court after the families of the victims and the owner of the Isuzo truck failed to have amicable settlements.
Telen, the driver facing charges maintained that his truck was the one rammed by the speeding Bongo truck driven by Alvin Escabarte.
Escabarte died on the spot due to the impact of the collision along with seven others, while 18 more passengers are now treated at Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC) due to various physical injuries.
“Nagtoo gani ko nga nakatulog to ang driver sa Bongo kay kalit man siya mikawat sa akong dalan ug mibangga sa akong truck nga gi drayban.” (I believe the Bongo truck driver feel asleep in which he went into my way and rammed the truck that I was driving),” Telen claimed.
But he said, since he was involved in this deadly road accident, he also shares partly the obligation to face the charges filed against him. “Pero ang klaro ani sir nadamay ra gyud ko ani nga kaso,” he said during an interview.
BOLLOZOS SETTLED
Broadcaster Manny Agustero also said yesterday that through the help of Tagoloan Mayor Nadia Emano-Elipe and Congressman Bambi Emano, the owner of the Isuzu truck finally settled the fees incurred at Bollozos Funeral, which included the embalming, coffins and other services incurred during the stay of the cadavers at said funeral house.
This payment also paved the way for Bollozos to release all the cadavers and to have the immediate families to bring their dead loved ones to their respective homes in Tagoloan town in Misamis Oriental.
“Mapasalamaton kita sa pagtabang ni Mayor Nadia Emano ug Congressman Bambi nga mabayran gyud sa tag iya sa Isuzu truck ang balayronon sa Bollozos para ila nang makuha ang patayng lawas sa ilang mga mahal sa kinabuhi,” the broadcaster said over Magnum Radio.
