Illegal drug deal eyed in the killing of 4 in MisOr

BY CRIS DIAZ

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY: Unsettled “illegal drug” transaction was the motive in the killing of four persons in Villanueva, Misamis Oriental, a senior police officer said Thursday.

PCol. Raniel M. Valones, Misamis Oriental Provincial Police Director, said that the four victims that included two minors, were gunned down in the outskirt of Villanueva on July 12, 2022.

He said that several witnesses were able to provide information about the killing that actually transpired after one of the victims – a woman – failed to remit the proceeds of the illegal drugs.

According to Valones, the car driver who was also shot dead and his car torched on the highway in Naawan, Misamis Oriental, was a collateral victim.

“The driver was neither part nor engaged in the illegal drug deal. His car was rented by the woman who brought along two minors aged 15 and six while allegedly collecting drug proceeds in Initao, a neighboring town of Naawan, “ Valones said.

Valones did not provide the identities of the victims but said that the woman was listed as among the high valued target in the illicit drug trade here.

“There is an existing illegal drug syndicate that operates in Misamis Oriental, Iligan City and Cagayan de Oro City, “ Valones said without elaborating.

Valones said that with the collaboration of various witnesses and town police of Naawan, Initao and Villanueva, the Villanueva shooting was considered closed.

He said that the filing of cases against the suspects would be the next step to bring justice to the victims. -0-
