CIDG raids Congressman Teves home, safe houses

BY JOEL CALAMBA ESCOL, Managing Editor

BAYAWAN, Negros Oriental – Operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) raided yesterday the house of Congressman Arnie Teves, including some safe houses reportedly owned by the congressman.

This, after the government received intel reports the congressman is allegedly keeping some unlicensed firearms inside his house and other properties.

The raiding team raided three houses of the congressman in Bayawan City as well as a resort in Basay town, this province.

The Teves’ family has not yet issued their statements regarding the raids, but it was learned, the congressman was in the United States for medical treatment.

The DOJ Secretary yesterday said the travel order of Cong Teves was only until March 9, and he has to go back to the country to face allegations lodged against him.

On Tuesday, the PNP and CIDG filed multiple murder complaints against the congressman, in relation with his alleged involvement in a series of killings two years ago in the province.

Teves was accused as the one who allegedly ordered the assassination of former Board member Dungon after Dungon’s name reportedly appeared in a survey as top contender for a top political post in the province.

ALLEGED MASTERMIND

Meanwhile, two of the four suspects being investigated by government authorities have tagged a certain Congressman Teves as the alleged mastermind in the recent killing of Governor Roel Degamo and eight other people.

In an interview with reporters, the suspects named a certain “Marvin” as the alleged middleman who contacted them to execute the plan of killing the governor.

“Sabi sa amin isang drug lord ang target,” one of the suspects told reporters in an ambush interview. The suspects said they were initially paid P20,000 for their operating expenses, the report said.

But Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla told reporters based on their initial findings, there were three to four people who allegedly planned to kill Governor Degamo.

Secretary Remulla said: “Conspiracy ‘yan, pero may mastermind ‘yan. Ang tingin namin, hanggang tatlo o apat ‘yan na nagkaisa at nagplano at kumuha na lang sila ng tao para sumapi. ‘Yan ang ating pinag-aaralan sa ngayon.”

Remulla said in order to execute their plan they have recruited people to join the conspiracy and they acted as the assassination team.

Although the DOJ did not reveal yet the identities of the alleged prominent people involved in the conspiracy while investigation is still ongoing. But the DOJ added that at the appropriate time they will also reveal the identities of those involved in a conspiracy.

Meanwhile, Congressman Arnulfo “Arnie” Teves, who was reportedly tagged by the two suspects is currently on travel in the United States, for medical treatment, the MDNN learned.
