MAMBAJAO, Camiguin–The Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HnP), now touted as the ruling party led by Presidential daughter and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte ended its campaign sortie in Camiguin yesterday.
Duterte urged the voters at the jampacked Mambajao Municipal Gym to bring a resounding victory to the coalition which she said could be vital in fulfilling the dreams and aspirations of her father President Rodrigo Duterte.
But the presidential daughter said she is leaving the decision to the electorate of whom they think could best serve the country.
While the Camiguin rally is the last among Hugpong”s provincial sorties, it could be noted that only two of the senatoriables were present; candidates Jiggy Manicad and Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa. The party offered no explanation on the absence of the majority of the senatoriables.
Sara’s Hugpong in Camiguin is facing a formidable odd as the province is a known bailiwick of the Romualdos, whose party, the National People’s Coalition (NPC) is now coalesced with PDP-Laban.
In her speech, Mayor Duterte also took a swipe at the Romualdos for allegedly sabotaging the campaign rally of father during the 2016 presidential election where the power was cut off in the middle of the latter’s speech.
She then told the audience not to forget that incident when they cast their votes on May 13. She also didn’t mince words to liken former Mambajao Mayor and now governatorial candidate Jurdin Jesus “JJ” Romualdo to a saint or a god in the province.
When asked to comment on the presidential daughter’s harsh words against him, Romualdo just shrugged it off and call it as part of the usual campaign methods of some parties.
But Romualdo explained said while they are coalesced with the PDP-Laban where President Duterte is the titular head, that his entire party in Camiguin would still campaign for the whole of Hugpong senatoriables.
“We already made a commitment to support them and as a matter of principle, I will abide by it. I have no intention to discard them,” Romualdo said.
As to Sara’s continued swipe, the former Mambajao Mayor said he just wish her goodluck.
