CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Seasoned makers of quality dairy products, Highland Fresh Dairy Products (HFDP), celebrated their 32nd anniversary with the less fortunate “Badjao” community in this city, top executives of the company said yesterday.
Wilma Y. Buray, HFDP General Manager told MDN in an interview that one of the very significant activities during the 32nd anniversary was the feeding program to the Badjao community in Barangay Lapasan.
Buray said HFDP milk bars were given to the children and packed lunch for their parents and older siblings. “Dunay nag-suggest sa board nga moadto mi sa community nga wala maabtan sa mga gatas namo,” says Buray adding that their beneficiaries of this milk feeding program this year were the Badjao community.
She said that this is the first time their company personally spearheaded the feeding program to the Badjao community.
However, they’ve been supporting other non-government organizations in their feeding programs especially to the Badjao community in Barangay Lapasan.
“We’ve been helping the less fortunate people ever since the company existed many years ago.
“There are many NGOs who’ve asked for our support and we always supported their causes,” Buray explained. For his part, HFDP Chairman Bong Robert M. Enerio also added that they have decided to choose the Badjao community as beneficiaries of their feeding program because they are among the less fortunate people in the city.
He said this feeding program was part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Kining man gud ang Badjao the most neglected in the entire Philippines,” he said.
“When we decided to celebrate this 32nd anniversary we also decided to make a social impact and not just mere motorcade. So the board decided to have a budget for the milk feeding program to the less fortunate group in the city,” Enerio pointed out.
ACTIVITY
Before the milk feeding program, the company and its personnel conducted a motorcade at exactly 7am, starting from the company’s dairy plant in El Salvador City, Misamis Oriental going to Barangay Bulua in Cagayan de Oro reaching Alubijid and then back to the Highland Fresh Dairy Products’ factory
Then the group also proceeded to their main plant in El Salvador City. During the motorcade the employees and officials distributed their top seller milk bars to the people they met along the road.
The company prepared around 1,500 milk bars, it was learned. At around 11 am on the same day, HFDP personnel, staffs and officials also conducted a feeding program to the Badjao community in Barangay Lapasan in Cagayan de Oro. A total of 200 pack lunches were distributed to the older Badjaos and their parents and more than 300 milk bars were also distributed to their children.
