Health Researchers in NorthMin Receive Training in Basic Research Methods

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Forty-four researchers from 12 member-institutions of the Northern Mindanao Consortium for Health Research and Development receive training on basic research methods on March 7-8 and 14-15, 2023 through zoom and face-to-face at VIP Hotel.

The first phase of the training on March 7-8 was conducted in a virtual platform where the participants were able to learn the basic components of the research.The consortium invited Dr. Peter R. Orbase and Dr. Evelyn C. Creencia as resource persons in the training. Resource persons utilized the training materials that are standardized by the Philippine National Health Research System tailor-fitted to the needs of the participants.

Researchers who successfully submitted a draft research proposal advanced to the second phase at The VIP Hotel on March 14-15, 2023.On the second phase, the drafted research proposals were incorporated in the DOST Forms as one of the guidelines in submitting health research proposals for possible funding to DOST-PCHRD. Ms. Paula Jane A. De Leon and Ms. Ian Hannah C. Gozun equipped the trainers on how to properly utilize the said forms.

A total of fifteen proposals were drafted and are set for further polishing after the training. These proposals are set to be submitted back to the technical trainers for final comments and recommendations. The submitted proposals are required to be aligned in the National Unified Health Research Agenda (NUHRA) 2017-2022 and Regional Unified Health Research Agenda (RUHRA) 2017-2022.

Once endorsed and approved by the consortium and as soon as approved by PCHRD, these researches will be funded through the Regional Research Fund.

This yearly capacity-building activity is one of the major activities of NORMINCOHRD. It aims to promote a research-enabling community and to capacitate budding researchers to produce quality and fundable research proposals for submission to the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (PCHRD).

Among the participating institutes are Mountain View College, Cagayan de Oro College-PHINMA, Central Mindanao University, Bukidnon State University, JR Borja General Hospital, and more.

Resource speaker Dr. Evelyn C. Creencia shared that research is the driving force for the economy of the nation. She emphasized the vital role researchers play in the development of the country. “Researchers are actually responsible to where the country would go”, she said.

The Northern Mindanao Consortium for Health Research and Development (NorMinCoHRD) is one of the regional health research consortia of the country under the Philippine National Health Research System (PNHRS). NorMinCoHRD was established in 2008 through the initiative and support of the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (PCHRD). (Jessa Aromin/DOST 10)
