CAMP SIONGCO, Awang, DOS, Maguindanao del Norte – A soldier of the 6th Infantry (Campilan) Division immediately responded after witnessing the shooting of a lady riding a red Suzuki Multicab by gunmen on motorcycles at Crossing Awang, Datu Odin Sinsuat , Maguindanao del Norte past 4 o’clock Wednesday afternoon (April 26, 2023).
Major General Alex Rillera, Commander of 6ID and Joint Task Force Central recognized the immediate action of the soldier regarding the said incident and saved the victim, Mila Mendil Ulama, an adult and resident of Sitio Baimagalen, Brgy. Upper Capiton of said municipality.
“We recognize the bravery shown by our soldier because of his willingness to put his own life in danger to respond to any situation. He did not let anything bad happen to the victim and saved him from harm from the gunmen. The victim was immediately taken to the hospital and is now recovering”, said Maj. Gen. Rillera.
It was learned that the soldier was riding a motorcycle back to Crossing Awang from Cotabato City, when he saw two suspects on a motorcycle without number plates and the backrider suspect shot the victim while inside his multicab.
The soldier immediately pulled out his gun and fired at the gunman, hitting him and running away. His fellow driver went a few meters away.
While waiting for the wounded gunman, the accomplice driver opened fire on the soldier but fortunately he was not hit.
The soldier chased the fleeing suspects on their motorcycle to Brgy. Tamontaka, DOS, Maguindanao but he returned and prioritized the welfare of the victim to be given immediate attention to be taken to the hospital and given competent treatment.
