CLAVERIA, Misamis Oriental–A town mayor here yesterday urged local officials to unite in protecting the environment against unscrupulous individuals.
Claveria town Mayor Meraluna Salvaleon Abrogar issued the statements amid the mushrooming of business establishment and commercial housing ubits not only in Claveria but other towns as well.
Abrogar said she other local chief executives have agreed to come up with a local ordinance that will help local governments safeguard the environment.
“Ang Mt. Balatukan ang nagbigay ng lamig at ganda sa Misamis Oriental,” said Abrogar as she thanked the local governments for the help in protecting the environment.
Earlier, government such as the Department of Agriculture (DA). Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR). Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) implemented the National Convergence Initiatives for Sustainable Development (NCI-SRD).
NCI-SRD is strategized to utilize and preserved natural resources through the developent and implementation of environment friendly enterprises and livelihood opportunities.
Launched in Misamis Oriental on August 11 2011, the Mt. Balatukan Cluster as chosen as one of the 10 initial Local Convergence Agro-Enterprise Cluster pilot areas by the National Convergence Initiative (NCI).
Composed by te city of Gingoog and the 11 towns of Balingasag, Balingoan, Binuangan, Claveria, Kinoguitan, Lagonglong, Magsaysay, Medina, Salay, Sugbongcogon, and Talisayan with a total land area of 228,680.41 hectares, the Mt. Balatukan Cluster encompases a great portion of Misamis Orental.
